Representatives of the Almaty Air Initiative Foundation took part in the International Clean Air Dialogue, held in Istanbul on September 23–24. AAI Executive Director Zhuldyz Saulebekova spoke at the session titled “Air Quality Communication to the Public: From Data to Action.”

The forum brought together government officials, international organizations, researchers, and civil society leaders from around the world. Participants discussed how to move from air quality data to real-world solutions through better monitoring, data-driven approaches, international cooperation, and effective public communication.

Zhuldyz Saulebekova delivered a talk titled “Do You Speak PM2.5? What Product Thinking Can Teach Us About Air Quality Communication.” She addressed a core challenge for air quality initiatives: how to turn complex figures, indices, and health risks into clear, practical information that genuinely helps people make everyday decisions.

A product-driven approach focuses on the user rather than the data itself: what does a person actually need to know right now, what decision are they trying to make, and how can this information be truly useful to them in that moment?

This perspective resonated strongly throughout the forum. Attendees agreed that clean air initiatives need clear, accessible communication to succeed. Complex scientific insights must be translated into simple, actionable messages for the public, local communities, and policymakers alike.
