Approach

What We Do

To achieve improvements in Almaty’s air quality, we have developed the AIR-TARGET framework. It focuses on three key processes that must be developed and accelerated (AIR) using six scaling tools (TARGET).

A

Awareness

We aim to raise public awareness about protection from pollution and reducing personal emissions. Informed people not only protect themselves but also cut their personal contribution to pollution and support environmental reforms.

I

Infrastructure Changes

We support and promote the infrastructure changes needed to reduce urban air pollution: expanding public transport, increasing the number of e-buses and EVs, reducing the number of cars—especially high-emitting ones—, installing filters and cleaner energy sources at CHP plants, connecting households to gas, and other measures.

R

Regulation

Sustainable change requires making clean air a state priority. We support legislative initiatives to cut emissions and strengthen constructive dialogue between government, business, and society.

How we work

The Foundation’s work is structured around six directions:

T

Technology

Technology allows large-scale problems to be solved with minimal time and resources. We develop, adapt, and deploy technological solutions for air-quality monitoring, reducing pollution, and protecting people from its impact.

A

Art

Art has a unique capacity to influence public consciousness, evoke emotion, and shift perceptions of social issues. Through visual imagery and creative projects, we draw broad public attention to air pollution, emphasizing the importance of action and personal involvement.

R

Research

Research on air quality and its environmental impacts provides a solid basis for infrastructure development, policy changes, and decisions to reduce pollution.

G

Governance

Air pollution is a nationwide issue that cannot be solved without the participation of state bodies. We maintain constructive dialogue with authorities and contribute to documents aimed at advancing positive environmental change.

E

Education

Education is not only about transferring knowledge; it also creates a platform for scientific breakthroughs that can change environmental realities. We partner with educational institutions to develop technologies and solutions that reduce emissions and improve resource management. Through education, we also aim to reshape perceptions of air pollution—teaching children and adults how environmental issues affect health and well-being—so current and future generations become more responsible and supportive of ecological reforms.

T

Trends & Media

Mass media and other platforms help form public demand and spread ideas quickly. The air-pollution problem in Almaty cannot be solved overnight, yet keeping it topical and “on trend” is essential. We therefore work actively with the media and run social channels to sustain public interest in the issue.
