On August 13, 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Almaty between Kazakh-British Technical University (KBTU) and the private foundation Almaty Air Initiative (AAI).

The document aims to foster collaboration and achieve measurable results in the areas of sustainable development, environmental protection, and improving air quality in the city of Almaty.

The cooperation will focus on the following key areas:

  • Implementation of joint projects in air pollution monitoring and analysis, identifying pollution sources, and assessing their health impacts;
  • Development of ESG expertise and climate initiatives within KBTU’s academic and innovation ecosystem;
  • Organization of joint activities such as hackathons, urban environmental laboratories, and public awareness campaigns.

Both parties expressed confidence that combining the strengths and expertise of the two organizations will draw public attention to Almaty’s air quality challenges and contribute to the development and implementation of effective solutions to improve the city’s environment.
