The Almaty Air Initiative Foundation has published its 2025 annual report, summarizing key achievements in air quality monitoring, environmental analytics, and regulatory developments in Almaty.

In 2025, the Almaty Air Initiative transitioned from an environmental project to an institutional expert organization. This year marked a scaling phase, where the foundation’s technological and expert leadership were converted into tangible legislative changes and international recognition.

Our experience confirms that data and expertise became the foundation for constructive dialogue on the future of the urban environment. The development of an independent monitoring network and the launch of an analytical platform have enabled us to form an objective evidence -based foundation, which is reflected in current systemic measures to improve air quality.

The Foundation has become a bridge between science, society, and government, whose expertise is integrated into decision-making processes at the state level .

Through creative and media projects, we have made the topic of air quality part of popular culture, generating a sustained public demand for clean air.

The practical result of our work was the development and testing of the AIR-TARGET methodology – a framework that integrates technology, research, community outreach, and urban policy into a single cycle. Having successfully tested this model in Almaty, we aim to confirm the versatility of our toolkit in 2026. Scaling up AAI’s experience in Pakistan and Nepal will test the relevance of Kazakhstani solutions in a global context.
