The Almaty Air Initiative Foundation held a press breakfast with local journalists. The meeting took place in an informal setting and brought together representatives of the city’s media who are interested in the environmental situation in Almaty.
During the event, the Executive Director of the Foundation, Zhuldyz Saulebekova, outlined the main sources of air pollution in the city and provided an overview of this complex issue.
Saulebekova also spoke about recent changes in environmental legislation, described in detail the work of Almaty Air Initiative aimed at reducing air pollution in Almaty, presented the results of completed studies, and shared the Foundation’s upcoming plans. These include work on a documentary film about Almaty’s air quality directed by Kanat Beisekeev. In the near future, the Foundation plans to hold a large AAI meetup with the participation of sponsors and project initiators Arsen Tomsky and Kairat Akhmetov, as well as to publish the results of an independent study on the quality of fuel at Almaty gas stations and a large-scale public survey on residents’ awareness and satisfaction with the city’s air quality.
In addition, the Almaty Air Initiative team aims to develop and pilot an effective toolkit using Almaty as a model city, with the long-term goal of applying it to solve air-pollution challenges around the world.
Journalists had the opportunity to ask questions and obtain useful insights that may support more thorough media coverage of air-quality issues. Participants emphasized the importance and urgency of the topics discussed and expressed their willingness to help inform the public about the Foundation’s work.
